The police of Chita, Zabaykalsky Krai, detained the administrator of fraudulent websites with rental ads in Bashkortostan. The amount of damage to residents of Transbaikalia as a result of his activities amounted to 350 thousand rubles. This was announced on Thursday, June 26, by the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the region.

"Eight local residents have contacted the Chita city police with allegations of fraud. All the victims lost their money trying to rent a house," the agency said in a Telegram post.

Thanks to the work of the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city, a 25-year-old resident of the republic was detained. He was one of the members of a group of cybercriminals specializing in creating fake websites for free ads, the agency explained.

"The victims clicked on the <phishing links> and transferred funds to accounts and online wallets controlled by the scammers," the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported.

A criminal case has been opened against the attacker under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group, which resulted in the deprivation of a citizen's right to housing"), the man was taken into custody.

On the eve of the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk reported that in the Leningrad region, law enforcement officers detained the head of a company that organized the supply of thousands of SIM cards for the needs of telephone fraudsters.
