European officials used the tactics of flattery to US President Donald Trump at the NATO summit in The Hague to win him over to their side. This was reported by Politico on June 25, citing sources.

It is clarified that during the day during which the American leader was in The Hague, European leaders "did everything possible to please him."

"And by changing tactics from confrontation to flattery, European officials believe that they have finally managed to persuade Trump to agree on NATO," the publication says.

It is noted that for the same purpose, the organizers abandoned long communiques following the meeting. The lack of voluminous documents and the shortened schedule of the summit helped to avoid disagreements over the details.

On June 25, it was reported that the final statement of the NATO summit in The Hague was the shortest in decades. On the same day, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that in a joint statement from the NATO summit, the alliance members decided to tone down hostile rhetoric against Russia.
