- The media reported on the arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan in Armenia for two months.
Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, a political opponent of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, was arrested in Armenia for two months. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on June 26 in the Telegram channel.
"Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan was arrested for two months. This decision was made by a judge of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction," the published message says.
It is specified that the cleric has been charged with terrorism and incitement to mass riots. Galstanyan's defense intends to appeal the decision.
On June 25, law enforcement agencies detained Galstanyan in Armenia. His lawyer said that by court order, the archbishop's house was searched, after which the clergyman was taken to the Investigative Committee (IC) of the state. The agency announced that the "Holy Struggle" movement under Galstanyan's leadership was allegedly preparing terrorist attacks and a seizure of power.
Later, Pashinyan said that the country's law enforcement agencies had managed to prevent a large-scale plan to seize power.
