The doctor warned about the consequences of avoiding gluten-containing foods

Gluten is a natural gluten complex found in grain crops. The exclusion of this component from the diet of a healthy person can harm his body. About this on June 26, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Evgeny Belousov, gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic).
The doctor noted that gluten withdrawal has become a trend of the modern generation.
"For thousands of years, humanity has been quietly consuming gluten-containing foods without any consequences. However, the situation has changed dramatically in the 21st century. <...> The reality is that true gluten intolerance (celiac disease) occurs in only 1% of the population," Belousov said.
He warned about the consequences of a healthy person switching to a gluten-free diet.
"By excluding cereals, a person deprives himself of important sources of B vitamins, iron, fiber and minerals. <...> People who unreasonably exclude gluten are more likely to develop nutritional deficiencies and even increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases," the doctor explained.
According to the gastroenterologist, you need to undergo a medical examination to confirm the need to adhere to a gluten-free diet.
Earlier, on June 16, Belousov called out the risks of blindly following the trend towards a gluten-free diet. According to the expert, before completely eliminating gluten from the diet, it is worthwhile to figure out who really needs it, and for whom it may be useless or even harmful.
