16 people were killed during the protests in Kenya, which involved a large number of young people. This was reported on Wednesday, June 25, by the Reuters news agency, citing local media.

"16 people died during nationwide anti—government protests in Kenya on Wednesday, most of them were killed by police," the publication says.

According to the agency, thousands of citizens took part in the protest. Law enforcement officers used "excessive force" against the protesters, including rubber bullets, live ammunition and water cannons.

"107 people were hospitalized, most with gunshot wounds (meaning rubber bullets and live ammunition. — Ed.)," the agency's source said.

The demonstrators are opposed to Kenyan President William Ruto and are a continuation of last year's protests against tax increases in the country, Reuters explained.

A wave of protests broke out on June 25 amid police brutality against local residents in 27 districts of the country. Thousands of young people headed to the central business district of the capital Nairobi. At least 400 people were injured during the protests.
