Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree extending until October 1 this year the permission for foreigners to pay for Russian gas in rubles not only at Gazprombank, but also at other banks. The relevant decree was published on June 25 on the website of the official publication of legal acts.

The amendments were made to the decree "On the special procedure for the fulfillment by foreign buyers of obligations to Russian natural gas suppliers" dated March 2022. They come into force from the date of signing the order and will be valid until October 1.

The previous similar permission was published on March 28, 2025 and was valid until July 1 of this year.

In December last year, Putin updated the procedure for making payments to foreign buyers for Russian gas supplies, allowing the resumption of supplies to foreign buyers who paid off the debt by crediting it to an account in rubles. By presidential decree, Gazprombank was appointed an authorized bank that opens special accounts for such supplies.

At the same time, Gazprom's press service stated that the postponement of payment for gas was due to numerous requests from foreign buyers.
