- The expert called the transformation of the monorail in Moscow into a park a bold decision.
Yakov Yakubovich, an expert at the Institute of Fundamental Problems of Socio-Humanitarian Sciences at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, said that the transformation of the old monorail in Moscow into a park is an unusual and bold decision.
In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On Wednesday, June 25, he noted that the decision of the Moscow authorities is in line with global trends in rethinking outdated infrastructure. In his opinion, the monorail has lost its effectiveness today, and it is important to adapt the urban environment to modern needs.
He stressed that the accessibility and functionality of the new space is of key importance. Yakubovich noted that the park should not only look attractive, but also become a full-fledged public place for recreation, sports and communication, contributing to improving the quality of life in the metropolis.
The Moscow authorities declare that the new green zone with an area of 40 thousand square meters will become not only an ornament of the city, but also an important part of the urban infrastructure, RT notes. The park will connect five districts, which are home to about 300 thousand people, and will be able to receive up to 20 thousand visitors daily, writes NSN. Running tracks, alleys, recreation areas and cafes will appear on its territory. Several carriages will be left in memory of the monorail, the website says. kp.ru .
However, some Muscovites were skeptical about the project, advocating the preservation of the monorail as an element of the transport system.
The vote was held in the Active Citizen project. 71% of the participants supported the creation of Russia's first year-round outdoor space in its place, according to the Moscow City News Agency. According to the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, such projects already exist in the largest cities of the world, Moscow 24 reports.
