- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced NATO's desire to continue the conflict in Ukraine
The increase in military spending by NATO countries is aimed at increasing the "lethality" of the alliance, rather than ensuring security. This opinion was expressed on June 25 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko at the OSCE annual Security Review Conference.
"Such a course by the West does not and cannot presuppose the establishment of peace in Ukraine, which is being used as an expendable material to contain Russia," Grushko is quoted as saying on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He pointed out that new packages of military and financial assistance from NATO and the European Union (EU) countries only lead to an escalation of the conflict, and the EU's position itself excludes the possibility of achieving peace and real European participation in the settlement.
"Now another terrible threat is looming over Europe — the prospect of improving Russian-American relations. Bells are ringing in almost all European capitals and adding even more belligerence," the diplomat added.
According to him, normal Russian-American relations are not only a guarantee of stability in Europe, but also one of the key conditions for the political viability of the European Union in the emerging multipolar world.
On the same day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the NATO summit in The Hague demonstrated a change in the alliance's policy under the influence of US President Donald Trump. According to him, the summit did not discuss Ukraine's accession to NATO, but the strengthening of the North Atlantic Alliance, which, in his opinion, reflects a change in the global approach under the influence of a new political reality.
