A criminal case has been opened in the Jewish Autonomous Region over a collision between a truck and a crossover, which killed a three-year-old child, injured two adults and another child. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, June 24, on the 1854th km of the Amur federal highway. It was previously established that the 49-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck drove into oncoming traffic to overtake another truck and crashed into a Haval passenger car, in which a family with two children was traveling.

As a result of the collision, a boy born in 2022 was killed, who was in the back seat of the crossover without a special child restraint device. The driver of the car, his wife and another child born in 2016 were hospitalized with injuries in the regional hospital, IA EAOmedia writes.

"The investigative department of the SU of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the EAO has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of a person")," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

All circumstances of the accident are being established.

On June 12, near the village of Sloboda in the Danilovsky district of the Yaroslavl region, a woman driving a Toyota Rav4 drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Volvo truck, which flew off the road and crashed into an apartment building. As a result, a two-year-old passenger of the crossover died.
