The talks in Istanbul on resolving the Ukrainian crisis have opened a "window of opportunity" to cease fire and consolidate lasting peace. This was stated on June 25 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following his participation in the NATO summit in The Hague.

"We continue to make intensive efforts to end the <conflict> with a just peace. We have started mediation in Istanbul," Erdogan said at a press conference. The broadcast was hosted by TRT Haber TV channel.

He noted that Turkey will defend peaceful principles and its only goal is to achieve the desired result.

"Our expectations are for concrete steps from the parties. As I have repeatedly said, there will be no losing side in the peace process," the Turkish president said.

On June 24, the Turkish leader said that Turkey was preparing new diplomatic initiatives as part of the conflict settlement process in Ukraine. According to him, Ankara will continue to actively promote diplomatic approaches to resolving the crisis and will share the results of its work with partners in the North Atlantic Alliance on the sidelines of the summit.
