Over the past 3.5 years, more than 311.8 thousand new passenger cars have been imported to Russia through the countries of the former USSR. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on June 25.

According to him, the maximum volumes occurred in 2023 (126.6 thousand units) and 2024 (124.3 thousand units). At the same time, in the first five months of 2025, less than 19 thousand cars were imported to Russia from the countries of the former USSR, which is 74% less year-on-year. The expert explained the sharp decrease by an increase in recycling rates.

During the same time, Russia received more than 1.5 million new passenger cars directly from China, the expert noted.

Among the countries of the former USSR, Kyrgyzstan has become the leader in terms of car imports to the Russian Federation since the beginning of 2022, with a total of 137 thousand cars. The most popular brands were Geely, Toyota and Lixiang.

Kazakhstan is in second place with 99.3 thousand imported cars, the most popular brands were Hyundai, Kia and Toyota. Belarus is in third place (54.8 thousand units; BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota). Armenia took the fourth position with a large lag in terms of import volume (14.9 thousand units), Georgia (4.45 thousand units) and Azerbaijan (1.36 thousand units) closed the ranking.

Yesterday it was reported that in the first five months of 2025, 10.5 thousand passenger cars were imported from Belarus to Russia, which is almost three times less than in January – May last year. BMW became the leader among the brands in terms of new car imports, while the most popular models were Mercedes-Benz G-class, BMW X5 and X7.
