The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Takhir Begeldiyev and Vakhit Khamzatkhanov guilty (listed as terrorists and extremists by Rosfinmonitoring) of attacking Russian military personnel in Chechnya in 1999. This was reported on June 25 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

Begeldiyev was sentenced to 21 years in a high—security penal colony, Khamzatkhanov to 24 years in a colony of a similar regime.

It was established that in September 1999, the defendants voluntarily joined one of the armed groups established in Chechnya to attack civilians and organizations, law enforcement officers and military personnel.

On October 4 of the same year, in the village of Chervlenaya, the gang members waited for the military to appear and attacked them. As a result, 15 soldiers were killed and 28 others were wounded.

On December 16, 2024, it was reported about the detention of defendants in criminal cases about armed attacks by members of the Basayev and Batykayev gang on the Russian military in Chechnya in 1999 and 2000. The detainees Hamidula Yapov and Minkail Magamadov are charged under Article 279 of the Criminal Code ("Organization of an armed rebellion or active participation in it"), Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in a gang"), Article 317 of the Criminal Code ("Assault on the life of a law enforcement officer").
