- The State Duma noted the predominance of common sense in the rhetoric concerning the Russian Federation at the NATO summit

Common sense is beginning to prevail in the rhetoric related to Russia at the NATO summit. Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee, said this in an interview with Izvestia on June 25.
According to her, even before the start of the alliance's summit in The Hague, a number of politicians raised the issue of the need to increase military spending and "rein in Russia."
"Now, on the contrary, any aggressive attitude of NATO and an increase in spending to support Ukraine will not lead to a peaceful settlement of the issue. And there are other hot spots that also show that if you drag out this story and delay the peaceful resolution of issues, it will lead to half a century of conflicts," Zhurova said.
The MP also wondered who is interested in increasing military spending. She stressed that people in Europe and America would prefer their taxes to be used for education, healthcare and infrastructure rather than conflict.
On the same day, The Telegraph newspaper reported that in the final statement of the NATO summit in The Hague, the alliance members intend to soften hostile rhetoric against Russia. At the same time, it is clarified that in the document, 32 members of the alliance "confirm their unwavering sovereign obligations" to provide support to Ukraine.
Prior to that, on June 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO was aiming at aggression and confrontation against the Russian Federation, and was also following the path of "frenzied militarization." According to the Russian president's press secretary, the alliance is currently not an "instrument of security and stability."
