The final statement of the NATO summit, which took place in The Hague on June 25, was the shortest in the last few decades, it includes only five points.
Thus, the document announced that the alliance will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, as well as finance its defense industry. However, the country's accession to the alliance was not mentioned.
"The NATO countries confirm their inviolable sovereign obligations to support Ukraine, <...> and for this purpose will include direct contributions to the defense of Ukraine and its defense industry when calculating the defense expenditures of NATO countries," the summit declaration says on the NATO website.
The leaders of the bloc also announced the "ironclad commitment" of all participating countries to the article on collective defense of the Washington Treaty, under which "an attack on one is an attack on all." In addition, the alliance countries consider it necessary to raise their defense spending to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP), but NATO intends to review the balance and direction of investments in 2029, taking into account the strategic situation and the updated goals of the alliance.
The last paragraph of the document states that in 2026 the summit of the bloc will be held in Turkey, and in 2027 — in Albania, adds "Газета.Ru ".
On the same day, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that in the final statement of the NATO summit, the alliance members decided to tone down hostile rhetoric against Russia.
