The expert gave tips on avoiding car breakdowns on the road
In 2024, Russians made almost 25 million car trips, and in 2025 it is expected to grow to 30 million. However, long-distance travel can lead to technical problems that can ruin a vacation. Dmitry Nikolaev, DELTA brand product manager, told Izvestia on June 26 how to prepare the car for the long journey.
"The most important stage of preparing for a road trip is a technical inspection before the trip. Many people limit themselves to checking the spare tire and jack, but this is not enough. We need to pay attention to the car's key systems," the expert noted.
The battery is one of the most vulnerable elements on a long journey. The load on the battery increases due to the air conditioner and on-board electronics. Before traveling, it is worth checking the terminals for oxidation and charge level. If the battery is old, it is better to replace it in advance.
The specialist also recommends checking the brake system and replacing the oil if the deadline has come.
"To avoid handling problems, it is useful to make a camber. This will increase the stability of the car and extend the life of the tires," the expert advises.
In addition, before traveling, it is necessary to make sure that the cooling system and electrics are in good working order, as well as calculate the fuel reserve, especially if the route passes through areas with rare gas stations.
"Do not forget about the first-aid kit. It should contain medications for allergies, headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, as well as antiseptics and burn remedies. If there are children in the car, add medications for motion sickness," concluded Nikolaev.
On May 21, car expert Yulia Trushkova said that it should take no more than a minute to warm up the engine in the warmer months. The engine and the lubrication system reach operating mode much faster than in winter, and driving under light load is much more useful for the engine than standing still, she noted.
