The Doomsday clock is getting closer to midnight, and Russia is actively engaged in preventing a nuclear conflict. This was announced on June 25 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"When the infamous Doomsday clock is ticking and the hand is moving closer to midnight, it is important to prevent this, and we are actively working to prevent a catastrophe," he said, speaking to staff of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the country's Foreign Ministry.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, talking about the possibility of the outbreak of the Third World War has become a routine matter. He stressed that this is especially sad in a situation where revanchist and militant sentiments are returning in full in Europe.

"As if two world wars, not to mention less significant conflicts in previous centuries, were not enough for the leaders of the current European Union," he concluded.

On January 28, the hands of the Doomsday clock were moved a second closer to midnight. Now their hands show 89 seconds, which is a record time close to "nuclear midnight."
