The conflict between Israel and Iran has increased China's interest in the Power of Siberia—2 gas pipeline project. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on June 24, citing sources.

"The war between Israel and Iran has revived the interest of Chinese leaders in the pipeline through which Russian natural gas will be transported to China," the article says.

According to the newspaper, Beijing can "give an impetus" to the development of the initiative.

It is also noted that China is ready to review the conditions and reliability of natural gas supplies from the Middle East. It is specified that China imports about 30% of its gas from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through the Strait of Hormuz.

On May 7, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev noted that Russia and China are at an active stage of negotiations on the Power of Siberia–2 gas pipeline. He clarified that the option of a gas pipeline to China through Mongolia is also being discussed.
