On the part of insurers, everything is ready to launch checks on the availability of CTP contracts using traffic cameras. The press service of the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA) announced this in its Telegram channel on June 25.

The RSA reported that checking the availability of CTP policies using photo and video recording systems will primarily affect drivers who drive in places with a high concentration of traffic cameras — large cities, federal, large regional highways. Taking into account the annual increase in the number of cameras and other measures, insurers expect a significant decrease in the number of car owners without policies, the union said.

"An additional positive effect will be achieved by reducing the burden on traffic police officers and courts, and it will also become another mechanism to curb the growth of insurance premiums (since bona fide vehicle owners will not have to "pay extra" for those who drive without a policy)," the RSA said.

Insurers estimate that 7-10% of car owners in Russia still drive without a policy. The RSA noted that the most emergency drivers usually refuse to purchase CTP.

On May 28, Evgeny Ufimtsev, president of the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA), said that checking the availability of CTP using camera cameras in automatic mode is expected to start operating in full on November 1 without conducting experiments.

On May 23, it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to improve measures to combat drivers who drive vehicles without valid CTP policies by November 1.
