MTS talked about plans to use AI in communication networks

MTS plans to invest up to 10% of operating profit (OIBDA) annually in research and development. The company will focus on developing solutions related to the development of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, as well as the use of artificial intelligence, CEO Inessa Galaktionova said in an interview with RBC.
"We realized that we were ready to enter into the topic of Disrupt — this is when you enter into technologies that will develop over the next three to five years, probe, study some foreign materials, various experiences," Galaktionova said.
She noted that MTS' areas of interest include everything related to new communication technologies, the Internet of Things, and the use of artificial intelligence. Including in the context of network management, as the company sees "how artificial intelligence can adapt to the user at the moment, expanding the channel, giving a certain quality."
Galaktionova stressed that the development of innovations in telecom will require significant investments in research and development, therefore MTS is ready to allocate up to 10% of OIBDA for these purposes in order to: "develop the technological community, a multi-stage mechanism for training the best personnel in the market, but, most importantly, be able to build a strategy for the decade ahead. Now we realize that our main competitor is the future," Galaktionova concluded.
