The dog handler warned about the danger of perfumes for animals
The scent of perfume can be dangerous for dogs. Animals react differently to different odors: some scents can cause them aggression, anxiety, or severe sneezing. Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told Izvestia about this on June 26.
"A dog perceives the world differently from a human: it is largely guided by smells, which give it the necessary and new information. This is unusual for a person. For comparison, the inner surface of a pet's nose is covered with 15 times thicker and longer olfactory epithelium, which allows dogs to detect the most subtle aromas even at a great distance," the expert explained.
He recommended that owners who love perfumes should take this feature into account and exercise caution. It is not recommended to shower heavily in the presence of a dog — apply perfume in another room, and preferably outside the house.
"It is strictly forbidden to apply perfume to the pet itself, especially to allow it to taste the liquid: its composition can be deadly for the animal," the dog handler warned.
According to him, experts also do not recommend using special dog perfumes from pet stores. Despite manufacturers' statements about the safety of such products, dog handlers consider them unnecessary — the dog has its own natural smell. Any unfamiliar scent can cause anxiety in the animal.
To eliminate the unpleasant odor, it is enough to regularly bathe the dog with a special shampoo. If the smell from the pet is too sharp or unusual, this is a reason to contact the veterinarian, rather than trying to disguise it.
Earlier, on June 20, it was reported that bathing dogs in ponds and fountains is dangerous. According to Golubev, standing water in the heat promotes the reproduction of microorganisms and viruses, and can also cause infection with parasites, infections, and even lead to death in a pet.
