Scammers are still using Apple's blocking scheme by gaining unauthorized access to iCloud. On June 25, the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia informed about this.

"How it works: A fraudster ingratiates himself with a victim using an Apple device. This often happens on dating sites, in thematic or gaming communities on social networks, as well as when looking for work," the department's Telegram channel says.

Then, under some pretext, the person is asked to log into the attacker's iCloud account on his personal device. After gaining access, the fraudster uses the "Find iPhone" and "Activation Lock" functions. After locking the device, the attackers ask for an average of about 10 thousand rubles, threatening to permanently block or delete all data.

If a person is confronted with this scheme, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia advises to immediately turn off the Internet. Such actions can prevent a fraudster from remotely blocking or erasing data. You should also contact the territorial police department, attaching screenshots of the correspondence, fraudsters' numbers, and information about the transfers made.

On the same day, Dmitry Revyakin, Vice President of VTB Bank and head of the Corporate Interests Protection Department of the security Department, told Izvestia about a new fraud scheme in which intruders, disguised as employers, extort large sums. The victims are users of job search websites. As part of the scheme, money is transferred to people under the pretext of "help".
