The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to intensify negotiations with Harvard University in order to resolve all differences, in particular, on the admission of international students. This was reported on June 24 by the Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing sources.

The administration expects the deal to be completed by the end of the month, and hopes the agreement will make a big enough splash to "basically become a blueprint for the rest of higher education," the newspaper noted.

According to the publication, Harvard is one of the US institutions of higher education that opposes Trump's policy aimed at revising admission and hiring practices. At the same time, as WP notes, Harvard wins all courts against the White House, accusing it of anti-Semitism, intending to establish control over universities across the country and destroy academic freedom.

"Whatever the outcome, the case will set a significant precedent," the newspaper quoted Sarah Hartley, a lawyer for higher education.

Earlier, on June 6, it became known about the blocking by the court of Trump's ban on admission of foreigners to Harvard. The university said in a court document that the administration's actions were "part of a concerted and escalating campaign of retaliation by the government, clearly in retaliation for the university's exercise of its First Amendment rights."
