Russian teenage chess player beat Carlsen in online tournament

On June 24, 15-year-old Russian chess player Maxim Ivannikov defeated Norwegian Magnus Carlsen at the Title Tuesday international online tournament.

According to Sport-Express, the game between ended on the 33rd move.

Ivannikov is a candidate master of the International Chess Federation. Carlsen is a grandmaster, a five—time winner of the rapid World Championships and an eight—time winner of the blitz.

Title Tuesday is a weekly prize—winning tournament on the platform Chess.com (the site is blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office), which is attended only by players with international titles. It takes place in 11 rounds according to the Swiss 3+1 time-controlled blitz system.

Earlier, on May 11, the youngest Russian grandmaster, 14-year-old Ivan Zemlyansky, became the winner of the blitz championship, which was held in the UAE. The second place was taken by the representative of Iran, Sina Movahed, and the bronze medalist was another young Russian Rudik Makaryan.
