Reuters reported on Le Pen's refusal of support from the United States.
The leader of the National Unification Party, Marine Le Pen, refused public support from the United States. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on June 24, citing a source.
"A delegation from the US State Department met with senior officials of the French National Association at the end of May, but their proposal to publicly support nominal leader Marine Le Pen after the court removed her from office was rejected by the party," the publication says.
It is noted that before the sentencing, Le Pen was one of the favorites in the upcoming French presidential elections scheduled for 2027.
On March 31, a Paris court found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds in a case involving the creation of fictitious jobs. She was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, and the rest were placed under house arrest while wearing an electronic bracelet.
Le Pen said that the verdict against her was political and aimed to prevent her from being a candidate in the French presidential election, and also expressed the hope that she would be able to participate in the presidential race.
