Putin named Ivanovo airport after Marshal Vasilevsky

Ivanovo airport will be named after Marshal Alexander Vasilevsky. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 24, and the document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"Assign the name of A.M. Vasilevsky to Ivanovo (Yuzhny) airport," the document says.

The decision was made in accordance with the decree of the head of state dated 2018 "On assigning names to certain geographical objects of persons with special merits to the Fatherland." The decree came into force from the date of signing.

During the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Alexander Vasilevsky, as Chief of the General Staff (1942-1945), took part in the development and conduct of almost all major operations on the Soviet-German front.

On June 6, the President of Russia named the Neryungri airport in Yakutia after Gavriil Chiryaev. Gavriil Chiryaev was the first secretary of the Yakut Regional Committee of the CPSU (1965-1982). The decree also came into force on the day of signing.
