WP has learned about attempts by a Democratic congressman from Texas to impeach Trump

Democratic Congressman from Texas Al Green has put forward an impeachment resolution, which says that US President Donald Trump abused his power by hitting Iran's nuclear facilities. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on June 24.

"Trump abused his power as president and 'became a threat to democracy' by launching an 'illegal and unconstitutional war' without congressional authorization, in violation of the constitution's war powers clause," the article says, referring to the text of the resolution.

According to Green, Trump's "authoritarian actions" are a warning sign that cannot be ignored. He stressed the need to support and protect the US constitution from being undermined by a head of state who "aspires to uncontrolled power."

How real is the escalation of the conflict

On June 21, Trump announced a successful attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities — in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. On the same day, he threatened Tehran with new missile strikes if the conflict was not resolved.

The next day, on June 22, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Trump's decision a serious violation that is grounds for impeachment. She stressed that the American leader impulsively risked dragging the United States into a war that could trap the country for generations.
