Waiting for the wave: "Scarlet Sails" prepared a water theater on Dvortsovaya and a new brig path
Huge movable screens are growing on the Palace Square, artists are rehearsing their numbers on the embankments of the Neva River, and the brig Rossiya is working out a new route. Preparations for the main alumni celebration "Scarlet Sails" are in full swing. And although the key surprises of the future show are kept secret, it is already clear that a truly large-scale and in many ways unexpected spectacle awaits us. Izvestia learned the details.
Screens in motion
"Scarlet Sails" will start on Saturday evening. But now residents of St. Petersburg and numerous tourists can see the stage for the concert, which will traditionally take place on the Palace Square. The installation work has not yet been completed, but the overall appearance of this impressive structure has developed. Its three parts symbolize three windows, and the right one is a huge opening through which you can see the sculpture group "Chariot of Glory" on the Main Headquarters. Whereas in the other two "windows" there are multimedia surfaces — multi-meter screens.
The most interesting thing is that some of them are movable.
— LED screens are mounted on mechanical guides. Due to this, they will be able to move around during the show, opening up certain spaces for the viewer, from which various objects used in the performance appear. The effect of movement is also present in videography, plus it will be enhanced by the physical movement of the screen itself: the system allows you to rotate the screen and move it along the guides," Alexey Bulgakov, technical director of the concert part of the Scarlet Sails festival, explained to Izvestia.
According to him, such a decision requires considerable efforts by engineers, who need to take into account many factors related to the safety of artists when developing the design. That's why you don't see this very often at concerts. The audience will surely be surprised!
A wreath will float
But that's not all! One of the most unusual innovations of the concert on Dvortsovaya is related to the number, which will use real water. The actors of the water theater will be in it. The creators of the show emphasize: there has never been such a thing in the history of "Scarlet Sails"!
— The actors of the water theater are already rehearsing in the pools. Very soon, a huge amount of water will be brought to the Palace Square for them," Vladislav Kabanov, the director of the concert part of the festival, revealed the veil of secrecy.
In the meantime, Izvestia was able to visit the stage itself and marvel at its scale. It's not so noticeable from the outside (at least not yet), but inside the main space, behind the central screen, there's a whole world: ladders, cables, lots of lighting fixtures and various gadgets... One can only imagine what an impressive sight awaits the audience when all this "comes to life" and the stars who are now at the peak of popularity among young people will take the stage.
Their names are already known. These are Zara, Bearwolf, Akmal', the band "5UTRA", The Hatters, Vadim Samoilov/Agatha Christie and Ivanushki International. The organizers couldn't get past the phenomenon of Nadezhda Kadysheva, who suddenly became the idol of a new generation and one of the most relevant artists of the season. "The river is wide", "I am not a witch", "The stream flows", "Am I to Blame" and, of course, "The wreath Floats" — all these songs will be performed on the Palace Square on June 28.
In a new way
After the concert on Dvortsovaya, graduates and viewers of the broadcast will enjoy a water and pyrotechnic show with the passage of the brig Rossiya. This year, the ship has a new route. It will start moving at the Senate Square, enter the open gate of the Palace Bridge, follow the Palace Embankment, make a 360-degree turn at the Winter Groove, then continue moving towards the Troitsky Bridge. And the return route will run from Troitsky to the Palace Bridge along the Palace Embankment.
— Right now, we are paying special attention to the turnaround, since the ship will perform it in difficult, cramped conditions during the holiday. Therefore, it is necessary to work out every element," explained Oleg Nikolaev, captain of the brig Rossiya.
The first rehearsals of the passage have already taken place — to the delight of residents and guests of the city. However, in all its glory, this fabulous action can only be seen during the holiday itself: for graduates — live, for everyone else — on the broadcast. It is reported that this year there will be one and a half times more lighting equipment on the ship, and even an original projection will appear on the sails.
And, as before, musical and choreographic performances are being created specifically for the broadcast at several locations along the Neva River. We were able to attend the rehearsal of one episode of Izvestia and appreciated how carefully all the movements and all the nuances were worked out. On the beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress, very young artists are dancing incendiously to an old, well-known hit, which will sound in a fresh treatment. What kind of song it is is a secret, let's just say that in the context of the issue about scientific achievements, it takes on a completely new meaning.
First, the guys train in casual clothes, going through each dance element over and over again with the choreographer, and then they change into the costumes that they will be wearing at the time of the broadcast — and the "finishing" work begins. Actually, all this is the answer to the question of how the directors manage to achieve perfect results on live TV from year to year, when there is no room for error, there is no opportunity to do a double.
— We achieve this with a huge number of rehearsals and runs. It's really a lot of work. We're shooting some rehearsals, editing them, and seeing what the effect is. What went wrong, where to fix or move something, how to work with the artist... The result is achieved only in this way," explained Mikhail Kolpakhchiev, chief director of the water and pyrotechnic show of the Scarlet Sails festival.
And there is no doubt that everything will work out this time. You will be able to verify it very soon. And at the same time, find out what other surprises the creators of the holiday have prepared for us. There will probably be a lot of them. Moreover, this year is an anniversary year for Scarlet Sails: 20 years ago, in 2005, the legendary Soviet holiday was revived on the initiative of ROSSIYA Joint Stock Bank, the government of St. Petersburg and Channel Five.
