The State Duma on Tuesday, June 24, in the second and third readings adopted a government bill that expands the possibilities of the State Traffic Inspectorate to revoke already issued driver's licenses. Such a measure can be taken in case of contraindications to driving during an emergency medical examination. The document was published in the database of the lower house of parliament and was adopted in the first reading back in November 2022.

The bill amends the federal laws "On Road Safety" and "On Personal Data". Now the driver will be able to be sent for an emergency examination during medical check-up and medical examination. It is required to undergo the specified medical examination within three months, during which time the driver retains the right to drive, but failure to appear will lead to the cancellation of the license.

Information about the driver's medical report is transmitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, after which a decision is made on the cancellation of the certificate.

The explanatory note notes that over the past five years, the departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate "on the basis of court decisions on the termination of a driver's license to drive vehicles, more than 105.4 thousand driver's licenses have been canceled for persons with diseases that prevent safe driving of vehicles."

Currently, ordinary motorists must undergo medical examinations once every 10 years when obtaining or renewing a driver's license.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the State Duma adopted in the third reading a bill that toughens penalties for drivers who ignore police demands to stop. The bill increases the fine for failure to comply with the police's request to stop from 500-800 rubles to 7-10 thousand rubles.
