Tobacco seeds tested for quality in Crimea for the first time

Tobacco seeds of the Virginia on Burley variety, which are grown in the Crimea, have been tested for compliance with regulations for the first time. The work was commissioned by the Magarach Research Institute as part of a program to revive the Crimean tobacco industry, the press service of the scientific institution reported.
The survey was carried out by specialists from the laboratory of the Azov-Black Sea branch of the Center for Agricultural Product Quality Assessment. They investigated the varietal and seed qualities of tobacco. It turned out to be difficult due to the microscopic size of the grains — about 12 thousand pieces weigh only one gram.
Tobacco farming on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula has a rich history, writes IA SevastopolMedia. Thus, in the village of Tabachnoye near Bakhchisarai, a unique collection of 1,000 varieties of tobacco has been preserved. The Crimean Tobacco Experimental Station was established here more than 100 years ago.
Earlier it was reported that the Crimean authorities allocated 15 million rubles for the development of the oil industry. Agricultural producers are compensated for 80% of the cost of laying new plantations. It is assumed that this will provide an incentive for farmers to increase the volume of growing valuable crops.
