The State Duma on Tuesday, June 24, adopted in the third reading a bill that toughens penalties for drivers who ignore police demands to stop. The document is posted in the database of the lower house of Parliament.

Amendments are being made to Article 12.25 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation. The bill increases the fine for failure to comply with the police's request to stop from 500-800 rubles to 7-10 thousand rubles.

There is also increased administrative responsibility for repeated failure to comply with the stop requirement. Such violators will face an administrative fine of 10,000 rubles or deprivation of their rights for a period of four to six months.

The same bill amends Article 12.21.1 of the Administrative Code, which regulates the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles. Responsibility is being introduced for violating traffic rules in the area of automatic weight and size control.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Russian government had supported amendments to the Administrative Code, which envisage tougher penalties for drivers who did not allow special vehicles with flashing lights without coloring on board.
