The NATO summit will be a symbolic victory for US President Donald Trump, but at the same time it will shift the focus of attention from the Ukrainian issue. This was reported on June 24 by The Guardian newspaper.

"Donald Trump is expected to arrive at the NATO summit in The Hague on Tuesday for victory laurels... The [European] allies agree to increase targeted defense spending," the article says.

It clarifies that the American leader's complacency will also be affected by the recent actions of the United States in the Middle East: attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and mediation in a cease-fire between Israel and Iran.

At the same time, as Jamie Shea, the former press secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance and Deputy Assistant Secretary General, suggested, Ukraine, which was once at the top of the agenda, will fade into the background - this will also be a consequence of the refusal of European leaders to make more decisive statements in support of Kiev.

According to the publication, with the US moving away from European defense issues, the Ukrainian issue has fallen on the shoulders of European NATO members, who can hardly compensate for the gaps created after the reduction of military assistance from Washington.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that European politicians had been preparing for the NATO summit for months to resolve differences between the European Union (EU) and the United States, but now their plans are under threat due to recent American strikes on Iran. According to the newspaper, at the summit, the allies will try to keep the United States from participating in the conflict with Iran.
