Western countries have failed in their strategy for Ukraine and are now "begging" for a truce for Kiev. This was announced on June 24 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the XI Primakov Readings International Forum.

"And now they are demanding, begging, begging for an immediate truce without preconditions," he said.

The Foreign Minister stressed that initially Western countries declared the need to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield. Later, according to him, the rhetoric changed to the fact that Russia should not win the Ukrainian conflict.

Lavrov noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously categorically rejected a possible truce, but now Western politicians are trying their best to achieve it.

"The fiasco of Western strategy and tactics is obvious, but Europe is still trying," the minister concluded.

On June 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025) that at every stage of the conflict, Moscow had offered Kiev to stop the fighting and come to an agreement. According to the head of state, the Ukrainian side refused because Western countries had certain goals.
