The National Media Group (NMG) and the Platform CSP conducted a survey and found out which foreign and domestic films about the future Russians consider the most inspiring. The results of the study "Sketches of the Future" were presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

As specified, viewers prefer movies with a positive ending and an open possibility of the future. The top 10 foreign films included "Avatar", "The Fifth Element", "Back to the Future", "Valley", "I am Legend", "Terminator", "The Martian", "Time", "Interstellar" and "The Matrix".

Respondents noted that Soviet films have a stronger impact on the audience. The top ten most inspiring Russian and Soviet films were "Guest from the future", "Adventures of Electronics", "Amphibian Man", "Moscow - Cassiopeia", "Attraction", "One hundred years ahead", "Kin–dza-dza!", "Time of the first", the TV series "Two hills" and "Through thorns to the stars".

Russian viewers also reported that what attracts them most in fantasy films is the opportunity to look into another reality, visual appeal, good acting, interesting characters and an original plot.

Earlier, as part of the Sketches of the Future study, it was found that 75% of Russians want to see more inspiring films about the future. The respondents named scenarios related to human evolution and genetic changes, artificial intelligence and robots, as well as environmental disasters and their consequences as the most interesting topics.
