The voting for the future of the Moscow monorail has ended in the Active Citizen project. 71% of the participants supported the creation of Russia's first year-round outdoor space in its place, according to the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

"The monorail has been around for more than 20 years, but it has never been able to become a full-fledged part of the transport infrastructure, nor has it gained much popularity among the townspeople. And the technologies that were advanced back then are outdated," Sobyanin stressed on the Telegram channel.

The new park space with an area of 40 thousand square meters will connect 5 districts with 300 thousand people, Sobyanin said. Running tracks, alleys, and recreation areas will be built in the park. The expected attendance is up to 20 thousand people per day. The mayor of the capital added that "out of respect for the past, a piece of history will be preserved in the park — several wagons will be left."

"Such projects already exist in the largest cities of the world, and I am glad that thanks to the decision of Muscovites, a modern space will appear in our beloved city, which will become a new point of attraction for residents and guests of the capital," Sobyanin concluded.

The Moscow Monorail was launched in November 2004. During a comprehensive inspection of the technical condition of the monorail, experts revealed its unreliability.
