The Kuril landing operation on Shumsha, which took place in August-September 1945, was the last major episode of the Soviet-Japanese War and the end of World War II. The operation was aimed at liberating the Kuril Islands, which by that time were under Japanese control. An installation dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will be placed inside the Sakhalin Region pavilion. The exposition "Roads of Victory" will tell about the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk operation and the landing on Shumsha. A film about the expedition to the island is scheduled to be shown, as well as videos about reconstructions of battles in the Kholmsky and Smirnykhovsky districts. New programs will be presented in the Tourism zone: military-historical tours "The Battle for Shumsha" and "Liberation of the South of Sakhalin", seasonal offers for winter and summer holidays, as well as gastronomic tours and the Far East – Land of Adventure project.
