On June 23, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), Mark Rutte, could not answer a journalist's question why he believes that Russia could allegedly attack NATO.

"There is great concern in many NATO circles. We have heard high-ranking military leaders talking about this," he is quoted as saying on the organization's website.

According to Rutte, many intelligence officers predict an allegedly successful Russian attack on the alliance in a few years if NATO does not start investing more in defense.

However, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance did not explain why Russia wants to attack NATO.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO had come up with a horror story related to the alleged Russian attack in order to extract money from its citizens. According to the Russian leader, it is the alliance that provokes militarization and an arms race.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 9 that NATO's statements about strengthening the alliance by 400% were an instrument of aggression and confrontation, rather than a mechanism for maintaining stability and security in Europe.
