When vacationing outside the city with pets, a person can often encounter plants that are dangerous to the life and health of an animal. About which plants are dangerous for pets, June 24, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Maria Zolotareva, Senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA.

According to Zolotareva, digitalis can cause acute heart failure and lead to pet death. The expert recommends paying attention to plants of the buttercup family, for example, delphinium. Their juice contains alkaloids that can cause muscle paralysis, respiratory arrest, and even death in animals.

"Many owners do not even suspect that even ordinary bulbous flowers pose a threat to pets. Tulips, daffodils and hyacinths contain alkaloids in their stems and bulbs, which, when ingested, cause severe poisoning," the expert said.

The specialist recommends paying attention to wild plants.

"Nightshade, which is often found in suburban areas, contains solanine, a substance that is dangerous for both humans and animals. After using it, pets can develop not only digestive problems, but also nervous system depression," Zolotareva noted.

The expert recommended carefully inspecting the site and removing harmful plants if possible. If the pet still eats a plant that is dangerous to it, the expert advises to immediately go to the veterinarian.
