Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro died in Milan on June 22, one day before his 99th birthday. This is reported on the website of the foundation named after him.

"The maestro left behind a huge legacy not only because of the power of his internationally recognized work, but also because of the consistency and intensity of his thought, able to look to the future with tireless creative energy," the statement said.

It is reported that even after Pomodoro's death, the foundation will continue its activities in accordance with the will of the founder.

The sculptor was born in Montefeltro in 1926, and spent his childhood in Pesaro. Since 1956, he has been actively working and permanently residing in Milan. Initially, he worked mainly on high-reliefs, but since the 1960s he turned to three-dimensional works using specific geometric shapes — spheres, cubes, disks, cones.

During his life, Pomodoro was a lecturer in the art departments of the world's leading educational institutions — Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley and Mills College.

The sculptor's most famous work is "Sphere within Sphere", which is on display at the National Museum of Modern Art in Rome and depicts a multi—layered globe.
