The leaders of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have called on the European Union (EU) to allocate a large amount of funds to strengthen their borders. This was reported on June 23 by Bloomberg with reference to a letter from the leaders to the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa.

"The leaders of Poland and the three Baltic states called on the European Union to increase financial support for plans to strengthen their borders, the first line of defense on the eastern flank of the bloc," the article says.

According to Bloomberg, the leaders of these states are calling for increased funding for border defense in connection with Russia's alleged destabilizing activities. They called for discussing this step at the EU summit in Brussels on June 26.

"The threat to the EU and its member states is growing, so a more coordinated and reliable strategic response is urgently needed," the statement said.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO had come up with a horror story related to the alleged Russian attack in order to extract money from its citizens. Putin also noted that the state, given the growing geopolitical tensions, will continue to take measures aimed at strengthening the security of the Russian Federation and its allies and developing the Armed Forces.
