- Bild has learned about the EU's perception of the Kallas report on Israel as a "stab in the back"

In the European Union (EU), the report of the head of the European Diplomacy, Kai Kallas, on Israel was called a stab in the back. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on June 23.
According to the newspaper, Callas wanted to propose at today's meeting of EU foreign ministers to discuss the suspension of the Partnership Agreement with the Jewish state from 2000 and economic sanctions against Israel. According to the publication, the EU diplomatic service sees signs of the country violating its human rights obligations under the agreement with the bloc.
"The government's response in Jerusalem came immediately: the EU report was "one—sided" and was an example of the EU's double standards towards Israel," the article clarifies.
According to Hildegard Bentele, a member of the European Parliament (Christian Democratic Union/The European People's Party), the EU's intention to end political cooperation at a critical moment for Israel will be perceived as a stab in the back.
Earlier in the day, Andrei Manoilo, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, said that the EU would not impose sanctions on Israel amid fear of conflict with US President Donald Trump. According to him, some European leaders may express their indignation personally or through assistants, but "that's the end of it."
