On the evening of June 23, Iran attacked American military bases in the Middle East as part of Operation Good News of Victory. The Iranian strikes were Tehran's response to attacks by the US Armed Forces on Iranian territory on the night of June 21-22. What you need to know about the operation of the Islamic Republic is in the Izvestia article.

Details of the attack

According to the Israeli Ynet portal, Iran launched 10 missiles at a US military facility in Qatar. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the target of the attack was the Al-Udeid airbase in the suburbs of the Qatari capital of Doha.

Qatar's Ministry of Defense reported on the successful interception of Iranian missiles, and there were no casualties or injuries during the repulse of the attacks. At the same time, the state Television and radio Company of Iran announced the successful hit of at least six missiles at the Al-Udeid base.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari said that Qatari and foreign military personnel had been evacuated from the military facility in advance. According to The New York Times, the Iranian side informed Qatari officials in advance about the impending attack.

According to Ynet, another missile was launched at an American airbase in Iraq. A maximum combat readiness regime was declared there, and personnel were ordered to take shelter in bunkers. In addition, according to the IRGC, an alert was issued at American bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.

The secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said that as many missiles were used in the operation as Washington used to launch attacks on Iranian territory. The IRGC, in turn, promised that under no circumstances would Iran leave unanswered encroachments on its sovereignty and territory.

According to CNN, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Dan Kane are in the situation room, monitoring the situation in the Middle East in real time.

The reaction of the countries of the Middle East and the world community

Qatar strongly condemned the attack on an American military base on its territory, describing it as a "blatant violation of sovereignty." The Qatari Foreign Ministry said that the emirate reserves the right to a direct proportional response to Iran's actions.

Saudi Arabia, in turn, announced its readiness to support Qatar's response by all means. The United Arab Emirates also condemned the Iranian attacks. The UAE Foreign Ministry called for an end to the escalation in the region.

How Russia reacts

The Russian Embassy in Qatar advised Russians to stay away from crowds of people, as well as to refrain from traveling to other parts of the country. The diplomatic mission urged Russian citizens in the emirate to remain calm and closely monitor official communications.

The Federal Air Transport Agency ordered Russian airlines to stop flights in the airspace of Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Qatar. According to the representative of the department Artem Korenyako, the restrictions will be in effect until 02:59 Moscow time on June 26.
