- The Japanese Prime Minister pointed out the consequences of the conflict between Iran and Israel for the country.
The situation in the Middle East and the possibility of Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz after the US strikes could lead to serious consequences for Japan. This was announced on June 23 by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
"For our country, which is 80% dependent on Middle Eastern oil, for stable energy supplies, this is (the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. — Ed.) will lead to serious consequences," he said at a press conference dedicated to the end of the regular session of the country's parliament. His words are quoted by the Mainichi newspaper.
Isiba stressed that events in the Middle East have a strong impact on energy and gasoline prices. He strongly demanded that the parties to the conflict return to dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
Earlier, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz could turn into economic suicide for Iran. He stressed that the strait is of critical importance for the economy of the Islamic Republic.
