The organizers of the terrorist attack in a church and members of an underground group have been detained in Damascus. This was reported on June 23 by the SANA news agency, citing sources.

"As a result of an accurate operation conducted less than 24 hours after the terrorist attack on the Mar Elias Church in the Duvale area, we have arrested the person responsible for the attack and a number of members of the criminal cell," said a source in the country's General Intelligence Service, whose statement was published on the SANA Telegram channel.

It is noted that the detained members of the criminal cell are associated with the Islamic State group (ISIL, IG, terrorist organization, banned in the Russian Federation) and have long been engaged in the preparation of a terrorist act. According to SANA, several explosive belts and small arms were seized from the suspects.
