The death toll in road accidents in Moscow decreased by 26%


In the first five months of 2025, the number of people killed in road accidents in Moscow decreased by 26% compared to the same period last year. The Department of Transport of the capital announced this on June 23 in its Telegram channel.
So, in 2024, 120 people died in January—May, and 89 people died this year. A decrease in accident rates is observed for several key types of accidents. The number of people killed in collisions with parked cars decreased by 50%, in collisions — by 44%, and in collisions with pedestrians — by 8%.
The number of deaths due to speed violations also decreased by 33%, which was achieved, among other things, thanks to traffic cameras, the Department of Transport said.
Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, stressed that the trend towards reducing accidents and fatalities was the result of strategic actions by the Data Center, the Moscow transport complex, the State Traffic Inspectorate, the video analytics system on the MKAD and photo-video fixation complexes using neural networks, as well as traffic optimization.
On June 16, it was reported that the number of people killed in road accidents in Russia has decreased with an increase in the number of accidents. So, from January to May 2025, 44.4 thousand deaths occurred in Russia. Accidents with deaths or injuries, which is 0.7% more than in the same period last year. The number of dead in them amounted to 4.6 thousand people (-1.9%), and the wounded — 55.7 thousand people (+0.5%).
