The urologist warned about serious problems in the body with untreated prostatitis

About 35% of men of working age in Russia face chronic prostatitis. Meanwhile, the consequences of advanced prostatitis are very dangerous to health. On June 24, Roman Trukhmanov, a urologist, andrologist at SM Clinic, Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia about this.
According to the urologist, the nature of chronic prostatitis is deceptive. The disease can go on for a long time without any pronounced symptoms. The lack of a clinical picture in the early stages often delays a visit to the doctor, which increases the risk of complications and worsens the prognosis.
Hypothermia, sexual infections, stagnant phenomena in the pelvic organs, as well as irregular sexual activity and alcohol abuse remain the main risk factors for the development of the disease. The high-risk group includes men over 40 years of age, especially those who postpone preventive visits to the urologist.
"The prostate gland plays a key role for men's health. First of all, this organ is actively involved in the production of secretions that are part of the sperm, and ensures the motility of spermatozoa, which is very important for conception. However, with the development of prostatitis, men begin to have serious problems with erection and fertility," Trukhmanov noted.
The inflammatory process in the prostate tissues, he added, worsens the quality of sperm, moreover, it significantly reduces the synthesis of healthy spermatozoa and, if left untreated, often leads to various forms of infertility.
The disease can become a trigger not only for reproductive dysfunction, but also for a number of serious pathologies. In particular, chronic inflammation in the prostate causes benign hyperplasia of the gland (the growth of adenomas). Against the background of prolonged inflammation, some patients develop prostate sclerosis, a condition in which collagen accumulates and the glandular tissue of the organ thickens.
In addition, prostatitis can lead to urinary disorders, as well as the formation of cysts and kidney stones. Neighboring organs, especially the bladder, are often involved in the process. Incomplete emptying of the bladder contributes to stagnation, impaired kidney function, in particular the pelvic system, and creates additional risks. In such cases, secondary kidney changes may develop, requiring surgical intervention.
The urologist emphasized the importance of seeking early help from specialists in the case of prostatitis.
"Early diagnosis helps to avoid complications and preserve a man's reproductive health. An integrated approach, including drug therapy, physiotherapy procedures and an individual choice of rehabilitation techniques, ensures a high level of treatment effectiveness and contributes to achieving sustainable remission," Trukhmanov said.
Earlier, on June 17, Alexander Sysoev, oncourologist at SM Clinic, told Izvestia about an analysis that helps detect prostate cancer. According to him, a blood test for prostate-specific antigen helps to detect a dangerous disease at an early stage, when the tumor has not yet metastasized to neighboring organs.
