German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius' pressure on Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth over the withdrawal of American forces from Europe has angered representatives of NATO member countries. This was reported on June 23 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.

A senior European official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the result would be an inconsistent approach. He also called for every effort to work with the Americans to keep them as close as possible, and at the same time prepare for the withdrawal of their troops as quickly as possible.
On May 16, the US Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, announced Washington's negotiations with the alliance's member countries on reducing the US military presence in Europe in 2025. According to him, there are no specific agreements yet, but negotiations on changes to the NATO structure will begin as soon as they are reached.
