Scammers have started using a new type of deception, in which they call Russians and offer to extend the communication contract. This was announced on June 23 in the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Telegram channel.

It is clarified that the scammers call the home numbers of Russians and, under the pretext of "extending the communication contract," ask them to provide the authorization code from an SMS on a mobile phone. After that, the attackers gain access to the accounts and make calls on behalf of the alleged law enforcement agencies or Rosfinmonitoring.

Next, the scammers claim to conduct "illegal operations" with the account or accounts of Russians, and then demand to transfer the money to the courier, the Newspaper added.Ru». According to the agency, a pensioner from Nizhny Novgorod has already found himself in a similar situation, who lost about 4.5 million rubles.

On May 31, the Russian Interior Ministry warned citizens about a method of fraud in which intruders force people to call them themselves using numbers that pose as "technical support" for "Public Services." It was clarified that a letter about "illegal access" to "Public Services" was sent to the potential victim's e-mail or messenger. Through the letter, the scammers urge you to contact "technical support", the number of which belongs to them.
