Belgrade has temporarily halted all supplies of ammunition abroad due to the new control conditions. This was announced on June 23 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic after a meeting of the expanded board of the Serbian General Staff.

"We have now stopped literally everything and are sending our army. <...> There must be special and special solutions for something to be sent," Serbian newspaper Srbija Danas quoted Vucic as saying.

According to him, every transaction will now be checked, including for the authenticity of documents and the end user. In case of doubt, the export will be cancelled.

"I'm not going to leave 150,000 people without bread. On the contrary, my job is to open markets for them," he said, adding that the Serbian military-industrial complex (MIC) exports products to the United States and the European Union.

Vucic also recalled that after the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Serbia remained the only European country that continued to supply ammunition to Tel Aviv. The President noted that he had discussed exports with Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian and intended to continue consultations.

On May 29, Vucic said that Serbia would not fulfill the contracts if there was a suspicion that its weapons would end up in Ukraine. He denied reports that Serbia supplied weapons to Ukraine through Africa and stressed that the country currently produces them only for itself.
