A criminal case has been opened in the Leningrad Region over the deaths of two women in a head–on traffic accident on the Vologda- Tikhvin highway. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported this in its Telegram channel on Monday, June 23.

The accident occurred the day before, on June 22, on the 394th km of the Vologda - Tikhvin – R–21 Cola highway in the territory of the Boksitogorsky district. A 40-year-old Kia driver drove into the oncoming lane, along which an Omoda passenger car was moving under the control of a 25-year-old motorist.

Trying to avoid a collision, the driver of the latter drove into the lane where the Kia was previously moving, but at that moment the Korean car also returned to it. The cars collided head-on.

As a result of the accident, a woman driving a Kia, as well as a 65-year-old Omoda passenger, were killed. Four people were also injured, including an 11-year-old child. All of them received minor and moderate injuries, 78 TV channel clarifies.

A criminal case has been opened into the fatal accident under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of two people."

The police note that it is not yet known for what reason the Kia driver drove into oncoming traffic. The overtaking maneuver was not performed at that moment. All the circumstances of the fatal car crash are being established.

On June 22, a massive accident involving four cars occurred on the Ring Road in St. Petersburg. As a result of the incident, a 38-year-old passenger of one of the foreign cars died.
