The expert assessed the role of Russia and Iran in global energy security

Global energy security is impossible without the resources of Russia, Venezuela and Iran, said Alexander Shirov, Director of the Institute for National Economic Forecasting at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"It's hard to argue with that. Global development goals require the cooperation of the efforts of all countries, despite the conflict relations in which they currently find themselves," the expert wrote in a column for Vedomosti.

According to him, "the fragmentation of the global economy, the energy transition, and the rise of protectionism in international trade are becoming key elements of the new economic reality." It is fundamentally important for Russia to properly assess current global development trends and make decisions regarding economic development, Shirov stressed. In this regard, he recalled the key points of the report of the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin, which he delivered at the SPIEF.

"This report can be considered as a systematic view of large Russian businesses on the development of the global economy and energy. Therefore, consideration of his key ideas can serve as an element in shaping the image of the future of the global and Russian economy, and this is important both for shaping long—term policy and forecasts supporting it," the expert noted.

He stressed that the global economy will grow, its structure will change, and this will require a large amount of energy. At the same time, an analysis of the state of the energy balance and promising energy technologies allows us to conclude that some of them do not yet have the necessary economic efficiency or are not technically implemented at all.

"An important constructive element contained in Sechin's report is the idea of finding a balance between traditional and renewable energy based on the fact that new energy sources should not worsen the parameters of economic development and reduce the energy comfort of people's lives," Shirov added.
